The 2025 table tennis year ended on Saturday 20 December with the youth club championships. With 22 entries and everyone there in good time, it was clear that all the players were up for it!

This time there were two categories, U19 and U15. The number of players in the oldest age group is still on the low side, but that will surely change in the coming years. This time the podium was quickly settled, with Alex first, Wessel second and Bart third.

The U15 category was a lot busier, with many exciting matches. After the group stage (with some surprising results!), the best twelve went on to the main tournament and the other seven to the consolation tournament. Everyone kept playing for a place in the final rankings, so everyone ended up playing about six to eight matches.

The consolation tournament was won by Sarah, who beat Tintin in the final. In the main round, Tim was the surprise of the day. In his group he finished behind Aarav and Manan (though not by much), but in the main tournament he reached the final with three wins in a row (including one over the same Aarav). That his opponent in the final was top seed Jop was less of a surprise. Jop won the final and became HTC U15 Club Champion.

To decide who could call themselves overall youth club champion, there was one more match between the winners of the U19 and U15 categories. Alex now plays a few classes higher than Jop and showed it in the final with a 3-0 win.

After all these matches it was time to finish, as is tradition, with chips (thanks, Michael!), and for those who fancied it, the surprise tournament with long tables, low tables, high nets and more.
